Historic downtown Benicia
The blocks near First Street have older buildings, some with limited alley access and narrow lots behind them. Moves in and out of this part of town sometimes mean carrying items further from the truck than a typical suburban driveway would require.
Street parking downtown can be tight, especially on weekends when the area is busy, so we try to schedule early starts for jobs in this part of the city.
Residential streets and hillside lots
Away from downtown, Benicia has a mix of established single-family neighborhoods with mature trees and newer developments on the edges of the city. Driveway access is generally easier here than downtown, which usually means a faster load.
Some of the hillside lots on the western side of town have views out toward the strait, along with the steeper driveways that come with that elevation.
The bridge changes the calculation
The Benicia-Martinez Bridge connects the city directly to the East Bay side of the Carquinez Strait, and it carries heavy commute traffic at predictable hours. A move timed around the morning or evening rush loses time it does not need to lose.
For moves heading further into the East Bay or down toward Richmond, we plan the crossing time the same way we would plan any other stretch of the route.
A quieter pace than Vallejo
Benicia is smaller and generally quieter than Vallejo, and that shows up in moving day too. Streets are less congested, parking is usually easier to find outside of downtown, and jobs here tend to move at a steady, uninterrupted pace.
That does not mean less planning goes into a Benicia job, only that the planning tends to focus on the historic district and the bridge crossing rather than on hillside driveways or apartment elevator schedules.
Industrial Park sits on the eastern side of the city and occasionally brings small office and light-industrial moves our way, separate from the residential work that fills most of the schedule here.
